WS — Item 5
WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
Work Session Item 5
Date: 1 October 2007
To: City Council
From: Dan Tesch, Director of Administration
Re: City Council Compensation
Background
Periodically, the City Council is required to review its' own compensation. Traditionally,
we have approved three -year increases. Last year a resolution was passed that applied
only to 2007. That resolution called for a 3% reduction in mayor and council
compensation. If this resolution is to be effective in 2008, action will be to be taken prior
to the November election.
Attached is information derived from the League of Minnesota Cities Salary Survey. The
market we used were metro cities between 15,000 and 30,000. Prior to 2007,
compensation for the council had consistently increased at a rate of 3% - the same rate at
the annual adjustment for city employees.
Requested Council Direction
The council needs to take action prior to the November election.
The council needs to determine the amount of the increase.
Attachment(s)
1. Survey data
1
