Calendar Year 2007 and 2008 <br />(1) Objective: Continue to promote the importance of establishing a sense <br />of security throughout the community and maintaining support for the <br />Police Department and community involvement of the following groups <br />• Explorers <br />• Reserve Officers <br />• Office Volunteers <br />• Public Safety Citizen Commission <br />• Chaplain <br />• Community Emergency Response Teams <br />• Neighborhood Watch <br />• National Night Out <br />• Business Watch <br />a. Key Action Steps: <br />i. Complete assessment of departments' volunteer needs and <br />recruitment strategies <br />b. Lead Party: Police Department Staff <br />Key Contributors: Existing Volunteers <br />c. Funding Source: State Grant <br />General Fund <br />STATUS: <br />EXPLORERS PROGRAM <br />• Open house for the Explorer program was Sunday, September 23. <br />• All advisors were in attendance and 14 families attended. <br />• 8 new applicants will be scheduled for interviews with several more <br />applications still outstanding. <br />RESERVE OFFICERS <br />• Began the year with 19 reserve officers. <br />• Lost several due to various reasons (employment, time restraints). <br />• Returned to current strength of 18 with 3 to be interviewed. <br />CSO's <br />• Jon Gray was hired as a part -time CSO in April. He began his service <br />with the City as an Explorer. <br />• Matt Paulson is currently in training as a part-time CSO. He began his <br />service with the City as a Police Reserve. <br />10 <br />
