AGENDA ITEM 1A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Julie Bartell, City Clerk <br />DATE: June 7, 2010 <br />TOPIC: Approve Application of Living Waters Lutheran Church <br />to Conduct an Excluded Bingo Event <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5 Vote) <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The City has received an application from a representative of Living Waters Lutheran <br />Church to conduct an excluded bingo event at the church at 865 Birch Street on June <br />19, 2010. <br />Under Minnesota Statutes, Section 349.166, excluded bingo may be conducted by an <br />organization that conducts four or fewer bingo occasions in a calendar year, or in <br />connection with a county fair, the state fair, or a civic celebration if it is not conducted <br />for more than 12 consecutive days. The Living Waters Lutheran Church as an <br />organization meets this requirement. The church also meets the requirements of the <br />Lino Lakes City Code since the physical site where the organization regularly conducts <br />its activities is located within the city. <br />City policy requires a background investigation on the applicant and staff has conducted <br />an investigation and found no reason to deny the application. <br />The application, a certificate of non - profit status and the results of the background <br />check are on file in the city clerk's office. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Approve the request to conduct the bingo event. <br />2. Deny the request. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Option No. 1 <br />
