• <br />• <br />• <br />AGENDA ITEM 3B( <br />) <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Mary Divine <br />MEETING DATE: July 26, 2010 <br />TOPIC: Request to Provide Liability Insurance For Certain Blue <br />Heron Days Events <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Last year the City approved a request from the Blue Heron Days Committee and Lino <br />Lakes Ambassador Program to provide liability insurance coverage for the parade and <br />Lino Lakes Ambassador coronation. City staff and League of Minnesota Cities <br />Insurance Trust (LMCIT) staff have reviewed and discussed all of the proposed Blue <br />Heron Days - related events, groups hosting the events, and whether the events are on <br />property owned by the hosting groups, other private property or public property, as <br />described below. <br />Ownership <br />Event Event Host of Property <br />Parade Lino Lakes Lions Public - County <br />Ambassador Program and Coronation Lino Lakes Lions St. Joseph Church <br />Horseshoe Tournament/Family Picnic American Legion American Legion <br />Commerce and Crafts Chamber of Commerce Public - City <br />Lions Petting Zoo/1Nagon Rides Lino Lakes Lions Public - City <br />Tent Dance Miller's on Main Miller's on Main <br />Open House YMCA YMCA <br />Magic Bounce Inflatables Magic Bounce Public — City <br />Outdoor Movie Night Local Sponsors Public — City <br />Based on the discussion with LMCIT staff, the City would be expected to assume the <br />liability coverage for the parade, ambassador program and coronation, commerce and <br />crafts events, and community outdoor movie in consideration of the host group, <br />existence of liability insurance and event location. These activities are not excluded <br />activities under the City's current liability insurance; therefore, they are covered without <br />any additional cost to the City. The increased involvement of the City providing liability <br />insurance may result in an increased ensure to claims against the City for these <br />
