Screening: Staff will screen the applicants and determine a logical number of semi- <br />finalists (generally 6 -10). <br />Interviewing: The City Administrator, myself and another department director will <br />conduct first round interviews and provide the council with a logical <br />number of finalists (generally 3 -5). <br />At the same time, a panel representing patrol officers and supervisors <br />will also be interviewing candidates and provide feedback to the <br />directors. <br />Testing: Finalist would be tested for leadership skills, critical thinking and aptitude <br />as well as psychological testing. <br />Options: PDI <br />Martin - Macalister <br />Human Resources Consultants <br />Selection: The City Council, City Administrator (and others if the council would <br />like) will interview the finalists and make a selection based <br />the interviews, test results, background and reference checks. <br />Time line: After meeting with Interim chief Strege, we recommend that recruitment <br />begin after the first of the year. <br />From the start of the advertisement to start date is generally 10 -12 weeks. <br />Requested Council Direction <br />Council direction as to the process for selecting a new Public Safety Director <br />Attachment(s) <br />None <br />2 <br />
