WS — Item 2 <br />WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />Work Session Item 2 <br />Date: 4 October 2010 <br />To: City Council <br />From: Dan Tesch, Director of Administration <br />Re: Public Safety Director Search <br />Background <br />Per council direction, the following is an outline of the process with options for filling the <br />vacant Public Safety Director position. We will be using the standard recruitment/hiring <br />process that we would use for a department head. <br />The City Administrator and I met with Interim Public Safety Director on 28 September to <br />discuss the process for filling the vacant director position. <br />Option A. Appoint the Interim Public Safety Director as Director — evaluate the <br />Captain position. <br />Option B. Conduct an internal recruitment process. <br />Option C. Conduct an external recruitment process with a consultant. <br />Option D. Conduct an external recruitment process using in -house staff. <br />The details of Option D are as follows: <br />Recruitment: We will prepare an employment packet which will include a community <br />and position profile. <br />Advertise: We would advertise the position with: <br />MN POST Board <br />League of MN Cities Web Site <br />Minnesota Chiefs Association <br />The City's web site <br />1 <br />
