• <br />• <br />• <br />ENGINEERING <br />Overview: Engineering is currently a contracted service that provides input during the planning <br />and construction of development. Staff approves grading, storm water and improvement plans, <br />reviews and approves maps, plats and easements, and responds to customer inquiries. Its major <br />responsibility is to ensure that municipal water, streets, sewers and storm sewers are constructed <br />according to city specifications. Engineering staff manages the city's capital improvement <br />program projects, conducts special studies and investigations, and assists with water resource <br />development. <br />Essential Functions include: <br />PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS <br />The Engineering Department is responsible for virtually all City public improvement projects. <br />Projects are administered by the department from inception to completion and, in the case of <br />special assessment projects, through assessment. Projects include all publicly owned facilities <br />including sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, wells, water treatment, streets, park <br />development, sidewalks and trails. The department administers the construction contracts and <br />inspects to ensure the projects are constructed in accordance with city specifications. The <br />department also provides inspection services for all developer installed public improvements. <br />PLAN REVIEW <br />Staff assists with review of land use applications to ensure that all infrastructure requirements are <br />being met. Staff may attend neighborhood meetings, informational open houses and multi - <br />jurisdictional meetings to facilitate the applicants and/or public's understanding of a process or <br />development. Staff thoroughly reviews proposed development and writes detailed findings; <br />makes presentations at Planning & Zoning Board and City Council meetings <br />INTERAGENCY COORDINATION <br />The Engineering Department coordinates with many Federal, State, County, other local agencies <br />and other city departments in areas related to transportation, utilities, watershed management, <br />pollution and the environment. <br />11 <br />
