COUNCIL WORK SESSION DECEMBER 7, 2005 <br />DRAFT <br />I Mr. Novak answered questions from the Council regarding the referendum and the <br />2 project itself. He explained the timeline regarding the legislature and a decision regarding <br />3 an increase to the sales tax. <br />4 <br />5 Mr. Novak noted the County has been very clear and consistent prolie County's intent for <br />� the project. He stated he supports the existing law as well as the City supporting the <br />resolution this evening. He referred to and read a letter from the Mayor of Plymouth <br />supporting a referendum. He stated a sports stadium would impact the City of Lino <br />Lakes. He also noted if the stadium is such a good idea it will be supported by citizens <br />through a referendum. <br />Councilmember Stoltz stated he does not believe this is in the City of Lino Lakes: <br />jurisdiction or under its authority. He emphasized he is not saying he is for or against a <br />stadium. He is saying that this is a County decision and the City of Lino Lakes should not <br />pass the resolution. <br />Councilmember Reinert agreed that this is not within the jurisdiction of the City of Lino <br />Lakes. He noted he is not in favor of Anoka County establishing a sales tax to pay for a <br />stadium but it is not the City's decision. <br />Councilmember Dahl stated the City is not voting on a stadium; it is voting on upholding <br />state law and requiring a referendum. She indicated she is in favor of the resolution and <br />supports it being on the Council agenda Monday night. <br />Councilmember Carlson stated she also supports the resolution being on the agenda <br />Monday night and a vote taken. She noted she could live with the decision that is made <br />by the majority vote. <br />Mayor Bergeson stated he does not believe the resolution should be on the Council <br />agenda Monday night. <br />4 <br />- 7 1 - <br />113611. <br />
