COUNCIL WORK SESSION DECEMBER 7, 2005 DRAFT I Mr. Novak answered questions from the Council regarding the referendum and the 2 project itself. He explained the timeline regarding the legislature and a decision regarding 3 an increase to the sales tax. 4 5 Mr. Novak noted the County has been very clear and consistent prolie County's intent for � the project. He again stated passing the resolution at this point would be premature. 7 Ms. Langfeld added only the citiesrof Centerville and Oak Grove haL5,passed the resolution. 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 17 18 19 20 21 -?2 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 43 44 Mayor Bergeson called for a short break at 8:32 p.m. Mayor Bergeson reconvened the meeting at 8:47 p.m, Mayor Bergeson advised it was agreed at the last meeting that the Council would hear from Anoka County and then make a decision on the proposed resolution. Mr. Ron Holch, resident of Lino Lakes, came forward and stated in the end this is about a referendum. He stated he supports the existing law as well as the City supporting the resolution this evening. He referred to and read a letter from the Mayor of Plymouth supporting a referendum. He stated a sports stadium would impact the City of Lino Lakes. He also noted if the stadium is such a good idea it will be supported by citizens through a referendum. Councilmember Stoltz stated he does not believe this is in the City of Lino Lakes: jurisdiction or under its authority. He emphasized he is not saying he is for or against a stadium. He is saying that this is a County decision and the City of Lino Lakes should not pass the resolution. Councilmember Reinert agreed that this is not within the jurisdiction of the City of Lino Lakes. He noted he is not in favor of Anoka County establishing a sales tax to pay for a stadium but it is not the City's decision. Councilmember Dahl stated the City is not voting on a stadium; it is voting on upholding state law and requiring a referendum. She indicated she is in favor of the resolution and supports it being on the Council agenda Monday night. Councilmember Carlson stated she also supports the resolution being on the agenda Monday night and a vote taken. She noted she could live with the decision that is made by the majority vote.
