•
•
INSERT BEFORE PAGE 24
AGENDA ITEM 3A
STAFF ORIGNINATOR: Gordon Heitke, City Administrator
MEETING DATE: June 12, 2006
TOPIC: City Hall Security and Access Policy
VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5
BACKGROUND
The City Council recently approved the installation of an improved access control system to
increase security for City Hall. The new security system utilizes programmed cards and card
readers, providing better access management than the former key system. As part of the
discussions regarding security improvements, the Council has had discussions during two work
sessions as to whether council members need access to the secured staff office area outside of
regular business hours. At the June 5, 2006 work session, the Council directed staff to place
this issue on the June 12, 2006 regular council agenda for a vote of the Council. Upon the
decision of the Council, staff will complete the updating of the City Hall security policies and
procedures.
OPTIONS
1. Provide for council member access to the secured staff office area after regular business
hours.
2. Access to secured staff office area after regular business hours is limited to staff.
