2.0 Existing Conditions <br />Geometrics and Traffic Control <br />Existing geometrics and traffic control at the subject intersections are as follows: <br />CSAH 14 /CSAH 23 This intersection is presently controlled by stop signs on all approaches. <br />Control at this intersection is supplemented by an overhead intersection control beacon providing <br />a flashing, circular red signal indication for each approach. The north approach provides one <br />through -left turn lane and one right turn lane. The south approach provides one through -left turn <br />lane and one right turn lane. The east approach provides one through -left turn lane and one <br />channelized right turn lane under yield condition. The west approach provides one through -left <br />tum lane and one channelized right turn lane under yield condition. The speed limit for the north <br />and south approaches is 50 mph. The speed limit for the east and west approaches is 40 mph. <br />Intersection lighting is provided in the northwest and southeast corners. <br />CSAH 14/4`h Avenue North This intersection is currently controlled by stop signs on the north <br />and south approaches. The north approach provides one left - through -right turn lane. The south <br />approach provides one left - through -right tum lane. The east and west approaches provide one <br />through -left turn lane and one right turn lane. The speed limit for the north approach is 45 mph. <br />The speed limit for the east, west, and south approaches is 50 mph. <br />CSAH 23 /Pine Street This "T" intersection is currently controlled by a stop sign on the west <br />approach. The north approach provides one through lane and one right turn lane. The south <br />approach provides one through -left turn lane. The west approach provides one left- turn/right- <br />turn lane. The speed limit for the north and south approaches is 55 mph. The speed limit for the <br />west approach is 30 mph. Pine Street is aggregate surfaced. <br />Existing Traffic Volumes <br />To better understand the existing traffic conditions at the subject intersections, turning movement <br />counts were completed during the AM and PM peak periods on April 26th and 27th and May 2nd <br />and 3rd, 2006. The existing peak hour volumes are presented in the Traffic Forecasts section. <br />The collected turn movement data indicated the AM peak hour occurs from 7:00 to 8:00 AM and <br />the PM peak hour from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. <br />
