The, ioka County DWI Task Force is federally funded by the National <br />Highway Traffic Safety Administration (?III 1 SA) „: through the Minnesota Department of Public <br />Safety. It is estimated that approximately 1.5 million dollars will be, spent in Anoka County <br />over thenext_3_ years on this program. The program is being carefully monitored by N UStA.. If <br />alcohat relatedctishes and fatalities continue to decline in ,Anoka Counts, the program will <br />become amodel program nation wide. Nlembers ofthe Lino Lakes Police Department have <br />been :instrumental in developing and implementing the program. Sin. Bill 1lammes is one of the <br />programs eo- authors and is responsible for a larvae portion of the programs day-to-day opera - <br />tions :'Tlhirty Seven .Anoka County DWI Task Force operations have been conducted from May <br />of through December of 2007 with seven of these operations focused specifically in Lino <br />Lakes:-Ueal, county and state officers working this project have compiled the following statis- <br />tics: <br />• Arrested 498 impaired drivers <br />6,930 vehicles have been stopped <br />• 3.46'drivers have been cited for driving without a driver's lic-eftse <br />83 Warrant arrests <br />Seized 34 vehicles to be forfeited as a result of impaired driving <br />73 drug.arrests <br />• <br />2089 trot citations <br />211 seat belt citations <br />x,917 warning i stied <br />Suns warning of a Task Force operation <br />Sgt. Hammes spcakiai to the tali: force <br />Sale and Sober -The department has joined with the other 10 agencies in :Anoka County to de- <br />ploy offeers in an overtime gp'ant to enforce traffic laws. For the 2007 -2008 fiscal year, a <br />$41,000 gaunt was awarded .Anoka C=ount}' Laws Enforcement agencies.Agencics will work in <br />their Ow-TI jurisdictions as well as joining together to saturate each of the participating; agencies <br />respective jurisdictions. This stepped up enforcement effort is focused on reducing speeders, <br />and strict enforcement of seat halt laws. <br />
