CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION May 27, 2008 <br />DRAFT <br />47 Adam LeMare, Lakes Liquor, questioned the wisdom in opening another store in a market that <br />48 didn't support MGM. <br />49 <br />50 Item 2A Consider acceptance of final study on utility rate report from Springsted, Inc. - <br />51 Finance Director Rolek noted that staff is seeking only acceptance of the report at this time. <br />52 With that acceptance, staff will begin working on a communications plan for presentation of the <br />53 concept to the public. Patty Kettles of Springsted, Inc. will have a short presentation at the <br />54 council meeting. <br />55 <br />56 Animal Ordinance — Community Development Director Grochala reviewed the ordinance that <br />57 includes changes requested at the council work session review, including the voice control <br />58 change. Staff is requesting second reading of the ordinance. <br />59 <br />60 Police Department Annual Report - Public Safety Director Pecchia noted the draft report. It <br />61 will be finalized after the council accepts the draft. <br />62 <br />63 Chief Pecchia also reported on storm damage from the previous weekend. (Map distributed). <br />64 Tornado activity started on Peltier Lake and moved east to Hugo and caused damage. The map <br />65 indicates the extent of wind and hail damage in the city. That information is submitted to the <br />66 county and from there to the state to qualify for assistance. A barn and a storage bin were <br />67 completely destroyed in the Hardwood Creek area. City Hall suffered minor roof damage and <br />68 city well houses had some damage. One house has been left uninhabitable and there was one <br />69 reported injury from a falling branch near Peltier Lake. There are approximately 2,500 homes in <br />70 the city that received notable damage; in' addition 50 of the homes in the manufactured home <br />71 park were damaged. Emergency operations were in place quickly and worked well. At the end <br />72 of the day, every block in the city was checked. At this point, the city Web site has information <br />73 for the public. <br />74 <br />75 When the council asked what support the city is giving to Hugo, Mayor Bergeson explained that <br />76 he and the city administrator had visited the mayor (of Hugo) and were not informed of any <br />77 direct needs at that time.
