The council gave permission for he and his wife
to get a reverse mortgage and that was a good thing. He received information in the mail on the
process (from staff) and was shocked at the amount of paperwork and money that is required.
The instructions are virtually impossible to follow or complete. He doesn't believe it was the
intent of the council, in passing an ordinance allowing this process, to make it impossible for a
person to apply. He also has some general concerns about city operations and road
improvements; city staff should be reduced by at least half to fund needed improvements.
The Mayor requested that staff leave the council meeting and assist Mr. DeHaven in completing
the necessary paperwork.
SETTING THE AGENDA
The agenda was approved as presented.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Dr. Roger Womer, School Superintendent, Centennial School District, updated the council on
the activities and goals of the school district. The district ranks highly in the area of
achievement, attendance, behavior and finances. Short and long term concerns were presented
and included enrollment changes, attraction (through open enrollment), finances /economy /tax
load, commitment of state funding, and fulfillment of promises related to the 2005 operating
referendum. They are delighted with the assistance and cooperation of the staff and officials of
the City of Lino Lakes. Chairperson Christina Wilson, Centennial School Board, was
introduced.
The council offered thanks and congratulations on the great education work of the district.
