The reduction in property tax
collections should be reviewed. The County maintains detail of delinquent property
taxes by parcel. We recommend that the City request a delinquent listing of property
taxes to determine if such delinquencies are concentrated in certain areas of the City,
and more importantly, to determine if an adverse trend is developing. This may be of
particular importance in 1986 in light of the proposed reduction in homestead credits
from the State.
In 1982 the State arbitrarily reduced homestead credits received by the City. No
replacement aid was provided. The State is currently proposing a 1986 cut in homestead
credits. This (8 %) cut would reduce homestead credit revenue of the City by approxima-
tely $20,200. We recommend that the City continue efforts to monitor State financial
legislation to react to proposals on a timely basis.
IMMID
