Business Crime Watch - The goal of the Businesses Crime Watch is to create stronger bonds <br />between members of the business community and the police department v\ ith the end result <br />being crime prevention. The goal of crime prevention will be achieved through employee <br />training on a variety of topics that affect area businesses. In working together, all members of <br />the Business Watch will benefit from obtaining up to date information on cringes and possible <br />criminals that strike in our city through a Business Watch Notification System. The Lino Lakes <br />Police Department partnered with several local business and conducted training in forgery, <br />fraud, robbery awareness and prevention and self defense. The Lino Lakes Community <br />Service Officers work with the business within their assigned geographical areas. <br />Junior Citizens Academy - The fourth annual Junior Citizen's Academy provides instructions <br />on public safety to students at Centennial Middle School. Students learned how to fingerprint a <br />crime scene, use of force, defensive tactics, first aid, personal protective clothing. fire <br />extinguishers, crime prevention, DWI prevention. K -9 demonstration, the Police Explorers and <br />much more. The Junior Citizens Academy provides officers with another avenue topositively <br />influence juveniles in our area. <br />Internship program — The police department once again utilized service learning interns through <br />the development of a partnerships with Metropolitan State University School of Law <br />Enforcement and Century College` . Students benefit from getting a first hand look at all the <br />work that goes into making a community oriented police department successful. The depart- <br />ment benefits by reinforcing its commitment to education and the interns help create an <br />atmosphere where progress and new ideas are welcomed. <br />Monthly Seminars On the second Thursday of each month <br />throughout 2008, the Lino Lakes Police Department held free <br />educational seminars for the public. Topics of the seminars <br />included: Self- Defense for Women, Adult Drug Awareness, <br />Identity theft prevention, teen driver safety, snowmobile safety, <br />hunting safety, child safety, and internet safety. The seminars <br />will continue throughout 2009. <br />14 <br />
