ARTICLE 6.8A <br />MILITARY FAMILY LEAVE <br />Purpose, <br />In accordance with Minnesota Statutes 181.947, 181.948 and 192.325, the following <br />military leave entitlements are available to an employee who has an immediate family <br />member in the military service. <br />Military Ceremonies, Family Training or Readiness Events and Reintegration <br />Programs for Spouse, Parent or Child <br />This leave applies to immediate family members defined as an employee's spouse, <br />parent or child. <br />An employee shall be granted an unpaid leave to attend the following kinds of events <br />relating to the military service of the employee's immediate family member. <br />• Department or retum ceremonies for deploying or returning military <br />personnel or units; <br />• Family training or readiness events sponsored or conducted by the military, <br />• Events held as part of official military reintegration programs <br />The unpaid leave may not exceed two (2) consecutive calendar days or six (6) days in a <br />calendar year. An employee may substitute the appropriate paid leave if desired. <br />Military Ceremonies for Extended Family Members <br />This leave applies to immediate family members defined as an employee's spouse, <br />parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, legal guardian, fiance, or fiancee. <br />An employee whose immediate family member, as a member of the US Armed Forces, <br />has been ordered into active service in support of a war or other national emergency <br />shall be granted an unpaid leave to attend a send -off or homecoming ceremony for the <br />mobilized service member. <br />Time off is limited to the actual time necessary for the employee to attend the <br />ceremony, not to exceed one (1) unpaid day in any calendar year. An employee may <br />substitute the appropriate paid leave if desired. The City may, however, deny such <br />leave if the leave would unduly disrupt the operations of the City. <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />
