• <br />• <br />Family Member Injured/Killed in Active Service <br />This leave applies to immediate family members defined as an employee's spouse, <br />parent, child, grandparent, or sibling. <br />An employee shall be granted an unpaid leave for up to ten (10) work days, which is the <br />equivalent of 80 hours for a full -time employee and 40 hours for a part-time employee, <br />for an immediate family member, who as a member of the US Armed Forces, has been <br />injured or killed while engaged in active service. An employee may substitute the <br />appropriate paid leave if desired. <br />Notice Requirements <br />The request for any leave under this policy must be provided to the Human Resources <br />Department, with a copy to the Department Director, as soon as practicable. (A notice <br />form to request leave under this policy is available in the Human Resources <br />Department). <br />Effect on Benefits <br />The City will continue to pay its contribution towards the premiums for insurance <br />benefits and an employee shall continue to accrue leave benefits during any portion of <br />an approved unpaid leave under this policy for up to ten (10) work days, which is the <br />equivalent of 80 hours for a full -time employee and 40 hours for a part-time employee. <br />If a holiday falls during the time an employee is on an approved unpaid leave under this <br />policy, the employee will not be paid for the holiday. Salary increases will not be <br />affected by this type of leave. <br />Coordination with Other Leave Provisions <br />If an employee has eligibility for Section 6.12A Family Medical Leave, Section 6.12 <br />Family Medical Leave (FMLA) for Military Families, Funeral Leave, or any other leave <br />as provided for in this policy manual, this leave shall also count towards the leave time <br />available per the provisions of those policies. The leaves will run concurrently with <br />some exceptions as provided for in the applicable policy provisions, until eligibility for <br />any of the leaves expire. Section 6.7. <br />
