The deadline for applications
has come and gone and consultant Harry Brull has narrowed the 36 applicants down to 6
or 7. If the council is to delay the process, there is some concern about how that could
impact the pooL The process could be moved forward just to the point of notifying those
not in the final pool and notifying the finalists that the process will be delayed.

Finance Director Rolek explained the approximate financial impact of not filling the
position. The budget has already been adjusted to reflect a vacancy for six months.

A council member suggested that part of the decision is what council will make the
selection — the council of 2009 or 2010. The current council may be better suited to find
a person with a good fit given its collective experience.

A council member suggested that it makes sense to have more budget discussion before
moving on the position and Finance Director Rolek noted that the first budget discussion
will be August 10. With that schedule in mind, a member suggested that the council take
up the hiring process in September and October, that wouldn't be much different from the
originally planned hiring schedule but would allow for budget considerations prior to
hiring.

The council requested that staff provide a timeline for the process.
