• <br />• <br />• <br />Planning & Zoning Board <br />January 9, 2002 <br />Page 4 <br />Ms. Gretz indicated Pastor Gilbertson was aware of the City's zoning ordinance but the <br />proposed alternatives had not been discussed with him. She indicated that staff has <br />discussed with the applicant the possibility of eliminating the tool shed. <br />Chair Schaps questioned whether attaching the tool shed to the garage would meet the <br />ordinance requirements. Ms. Gretz felt that incorporating the two structures into one <br />would be a possible solution. <br />Mr. Rafferty requested confirmation that the two detached structures currently on site <br />consisted of the tool shed and the garage. Ms. Gretz stated this was correct. <br />Mr. Rafferty requested confirmation that if the tool shed were eliminated approximately <br />80 square feet of total existing structure would be eliminated. Ms. Gretz agreed. <br />Mr. Rafferty believed that this may be a possible solution if the size of the picnic shelter <br />was also reduced. He was concerned, however, with the appearance of the existing <br />structures and how the proposed picnic shelter would lo. "'`` e noted that there is <br />currently a sign to the rear of the garage facing the nee i *rhood. He wished to ensure <br />that a new structure would enhance the site. <br />Chair Schaps invited the applicant like to make c <br />Pastor Chad Gilbertson, representing Geth R�'ted Methodist Church, introduced <br />himself and Steve Matson, Chairper of ; e semane United Methodist Church <br />Board of Trustees. <br />Chair Schaps asked Pastor o opinion on the proposed resolutions to allow <br />the construction of the <br />Pastor Gilbertson stated the e ` ation of the tool shed would be a viable option. He <br />noted the picnic shelter as proposed would still exceed the ordinance square- footage <br />requirement by 80 feet. He questioned whether the size of a structure such as a picnic <br />shelter would be measured according to the size of the slab. Chair Schaps believed this <br />was usually the case. <br />Mr. Smyser noted the plans submitted to the City showed the proposed size of the picnic <br />shelter, which was the size used by staff in making its report. <br />Pastor Gilbertson suggested that the length and width of the picnic shelter could be <br />reduced by one -foot to address the total square footage limitation concern. He noted that <br />an option had been discussed of combining the tool shed with the garage. <br />Mr. Matson suggested that a new tool shed be constructed attached to the garage. <br />Mr. Rafferty stated that any new addition to the site should accent the parsonage building, <br />not the garage. He personally felt the garage is a weak spot on the lot. He questioned <br />whether the trusses currently on site were left over from the construction of the garage. <br />
