ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING DECEMBER 17, 2008 <br /> <br />He stated the Rain Garden Conservation Workshops is roughly 4 hours long. The <br />first part of the presentation is indoor and seconded part is an outdoor hands on of <br />what was learned indoor. <br /> <br />Second is Water-Smart Landscaping Workshop. This workshop looks at ways <br />residents can change the way they think of landscaping by focusing on finding <br />ways people can reduce the size of their sodded lawns with other ideas and to <br />teach people how to reduce water use. This is a two hour workshop done on a <br />weeknight roughly 6:30-8:30. <br /> <br />Third is the Shoreland Living Workshop. This workshop is geared toward people <br />who live on the lakes. They will learn how to promote water quality in their <br />water buffer, manage erosion problems, and reduce erosion issues. This is <br />roughly a two hour workshop. <br /> <br />Ms. Hartley questioned if the workshops were part of a PowerPoint presentation. <br />Mr. Zwonitzer stated yes, except the Rain Garden Workshop. <br /> <br />Mr. Zwonitzer stated they want to have people come in the door curious and <br />going home wanting to implement the process. He stated cost share is available. <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson will work with Mr. Zwonitzer to set up dates and for the workshops. <br />The workshops will be advertised n the upcoming City of Lino Lakes Newsletter, <br />website, Blue Thumb website and local newspapers. <br /> <br />Mr. Hartley questioned if materials are brought to create a rain garden. Mr. <br />Zwonitzer stated yes. <br /> <br />Mr. Hartley stated this is really a great service to the community. <br /> <br />B. 2009 Goals <br /> <br />Board members approved the 2009 Environmental Board Goals as follows: <br /> <br />• Promote environmental stewardship with the citizens of Lino Lakes by <br />communicating environmental initiatives in the city using various means of <br />communication such as: <br /> <br />• City WebPages <br />• Newsletter <br /> Spring-February 23rd <br /> Summer-May 26th <br /> Fall-August 10 <br /> Winter-November 6 <br />• homeowners association meetings <br />2
