ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING March 30, 2011 <br />DRAFT MINUTES 3 <br />Natural Resources: There are no unique communities within 1500 feet of this <br />site. There are no modeled geomorphic features that would support threatened <br />and endangered species on this site or anywhere near this site. <br /> <br />The Environmental Board recommends forwarding changes with above <br />recommendations onto the Planning & Zoning Board as well as the City Council. <br />Mr. Heiskary made a motion to forward. Ms. Andrzejewski seconded the motion <br />to forward. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />6. DISCUSSION ITEM <br /> <br />A. Tree Use in Stormwater Management/Paul Peterson <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson invited Mr. Paul Peterson to present his master thesis on Stormwater <br />Attenuation Through the Use of Trees to the Environmental Board. Mr. <br />Peterson’s article on Forestry and Water Resources was published in the City’s <br />local Press Publications paper. <br /> <br />He reviewed current thought and literature on the subject, explained how by using <br />tools of urban forestry to increase total tree canopy cover in a watershed, storm <br />water runoff can be reduced. <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated he would email the board Mr. Peterson’s life cycle analysis. <br /> <br />B. Heron Rookery <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated Connie Grundhofer reported seeing the arrival of the first Blue <br />Heron in Lino Lakes on St. Patrick’s Day. <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated there were a group of people who performed maintenance on <br />Peltier Island before the Blue Heron’s arrival. He stated he was satisfied they had <br />completed everything that they could with the existing nesting trees. He <br />mentioned a group will need to go back out on the island to flash the trees birds <br />nest in that are not already flashed. <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated there is a Peltier Island Facebook page. <br /> <br />C. Earth Day/ Recycle Day <br /> <br />Earth Day: Will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2011. There will be various <br />service projects in and around the City from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wargo <br />Nature Center will be open to the public at 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will <br />be various activities throughout the event. <br />
