Materials and Methods of Construction <br />Buildings shall support regional traditions and maintain a level of craft in the process of construction. <br />Wood, masonry, and stone are appropriate building materials. <br />Consistency. Exterior materials and finishes shall convey a sense of integrity and durability. Building <br />must incorporate consistent, pedestrian -scale textures and details on all sides that are visible from <br />public streets and pedestrian pathways. <br />Glass. Clear glass must be used for windows and doors; mirrored glass is prohibited. Glass curtain <br />walls are discouraged. <br />Simulated Materials. Materials that are visibly simulated or prefabricated are prohibited. Vinyl <br />sing and scored plywood (such as `°T 1 -11") is prohibited. <br />Proper Application and Detailing. Materials must be properly applied and correctly, detailed, <br />especially at the base of buildings, along cornices, eaves, parapets or ridge tops, and around entries <br />and windows. Material changes must not occur at external corners, but may occur at "reverse" or <br />interior corners or as a "return" at least four feet from external corners. <br />Proper Application and Detailing. Material <br />changes shall occur at interior or revers corners (a), <br />or as a "return" of at least fourfeetfrvm exterior <br />corners (6). Material changes shall not occur at <br />external corners (c). <br />Prohibited <br />Preferred <br />Consistent Application on Facades. All sides of <br />buildings that fax street. parks, or other pedestrian- oriented <br />areas shall have the same level of architectural detail and <br />fenestration (windows).
