• ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING March 30, 2011 The Environmental Board recommends forwarding changes with above recommendations onto the Planning & Zoning Board as well as the City Council. Mr. Heiskary made a motion to forward. Ms. Andrzejewski seconded the motion to forward. Motion carried unanimously. 6. DISCUSSION ITEM A. Tree Use in Stormwater Management/Paul Peterson Mr. Asleson invited Mr. Paul Peterson to present his master thesis on Stormwater Attenuation Through the Use of Trees to the Environmental Board. Mr. Peterson's article on Forestry and Water Resources was published in the City's local Press Publications paper. He reviewed current thought and literature on the subject, explained how by using tools of urban forestry to increase total tree canopy cover in a watershed, storm water runoff can be reduced. Mr. Asleson stated he would email the board Mr. Peterson's life cycle analysis. B. Heron Rookery Mr. Asleson stated Connie Grundhofer reported seeing the arrival of the first Blue Heron in Lino Lakes on St. Patrick's Day. Mr. Asleson stated there were a group of people who performed maintenance on Peltier Island before the Blue Heron's arrival. He stated he was satisfied they had completed everything that they could with the existing nesting trees. He mentioned a group will need to go back out on the island to flash the trees birds nest in that are not already flashed. Mr. Asleson stated there is a Peltier Island Facebook page. C. Earth Day/ Recycle Day Earth Day: Will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2011. There will be various service projects in and around the City from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wargo Nature Center will be open to the public at 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will be various activities throughout the event.
