• <br />I • <br />COUNTY <br />2012 RECYCLING ENHANCEMENT GRANT <br />Guidelines & Application Instructions <br />I. Introduction <br />Anoka County has established a 2012 Recycling Enhancement Grant Program for supporting recycling <br />projects by local public entities. The primary objectives of these grant funds is to increase the amount of <br />material recycled in the County at drop -off recycling centers, recycling day events and municipal <br />community events. Potential grantees include all twenty -one Anoka County municipalities. <br />II. Objective <br />The following objective has been established for uses of these grant funds. Project examples are included <br />to provide guidance to applicants and stimulate ideas for projects that meet County and Regional Solid <br />Waste Master Plan goals. Proposed projects that are consistent with these objectives will be considered. <br />Objective: Recycling Innovation and Efficiency of Drop -off Recycling Center, Recycling Day Events <br />and Municipally Sponsored Community Events. <br />The objective would be to introduce innovative ideas to existing recycling collection methods and develop <br />projects that may contribute to more efficient, abundant, and/or cost - effective collection of recyclables at <br />drop -off recycling centers and recycling day /community events. The following are project examples that <br />may meet this objective: <br />• Improving /expanding the collection of materials for recycling such as, but not limited to, mattresses, <br />carpet, electronics and /or additional plastic or paper items at recycling drop -off centers or recycling <br />day events. <br />• Management program for hard to recycle bulky items. <br />• Implementing collection of materials not currently being accepted for recycling at spring and fall <br />recycling day events and drop -off recycling centers. <br />• Additional staff time for planning and implementation for drop -off recycling centers, recycling days <br />or municipal events. <br />• Security equipment such as fencing and cameras. <br />• Equipment for drop -off recycling centers such as roll -off containers, balers, pallet jacks and forklifts. <br />• Expansion or improvement to an existing drop -off recycling center. Consideration will be given to <br />provide funds to lease space for a center in a pilot program to determine if the program is successful <br />prior to purchase or erecting a permanent building. <br />• Improving or implementing a recycling program at a municipally sponsored community event. <br />• Recycling containers for municipal events. <br />• Funds to assist in planning for and /or building a recycling drop -off center. <br />• Target education for drop -off recycling centers and recycling day events to promote the addition of <br />new materials and for use by small businesses. <br />1 <br />
