•
•
•
Natural Resource Area
Natural Resource Areas protect valuable natural features while allowing pedestrian
access along trails. The majority of the Open Space within the Woods Edge project falls
within this category.
As part of the site development, approximately 9 acres of the site, comprising
approximately 6.5 acres of wetland, will be preserved in its natural state. The wetland
area, located along the northeastern boundary of the site is part of an 87 acre wetland
complex that separates the site from George Watch Lake. Additionally, changes in site
design have allowed for the opportunity to preserve approximately 1.6 acres of
woodlands in the southeastern portion of the project in conjunction with the future
YMCA development.
Park Development
The City has retained the services of Short, Elliott, Hendrickson, Inc., to prepare the
infrastructure plans for the development including the "Community Green ". A
conceptual layout of the community green has been prepared which includes a large
central green space, seasonal gardens, as well as a performance canopy. The green is
intended to serve as a location for community events such as a farmers market, or art fair.
The "accessible commons" area, within the residential district, will be developed in
conjunction with the specific plan review for that area. Staff is currently working with
the developer and the YMCA to allow for joint use of the area.
A pedestrian/bicycle trail is proposed to be extended along Town Center Parkway and
through the proposed YMCA property, to connect with the Regional Park. Anoka
County Parks is committed to working with City staff to coordinate our trail extension
with future trail improvements within the regional park.
Park dedication will be a combination of both land and cash. The dollar amount has not
been finalized at this time. However, it is anticipated that cash payments will be used to
development the parks and trail system within the project area.
Attachments:
1. Site Development Plan
2.
