Maintenance activity during a very busy April has included:
• Ball field Inspections — Inspected and corrected problems prior to season start.
• Daily Field Preparation — The season kicked off on Monday. Daily maintenance includes
dragging, hand raking base and pitching areas, chalking fair /foul lines, dropping off balls
and placing bases.
• Soccer Field Layout — We will be providing 10 game fields and 4 practice fields for the
upcoming season. We do the initial layout and painting. The soccer club takes over
painting after that.
• Repaired and installed fishing dock at Country Lakes Park.
• Over seeded as needed at Clearwater Creek Park (area was damaged by football game in
the fall, before grass was mature).
• Sprayed for Knotweed control on athletic fields, which will be over seeded.
• Irrigation system start up and inspections at Clearwater Creek, Highland Meadows,
Behm's, and Marshan Parks.
• Equipment Maintenance — Prepped mowers, trailers, groomers, weed whips, etc for
upcoming season.
• High Risk Oak Removal — Assisted Forestry with removal of spore producing trees from
city property. (6 trees at Sunrise, 5 trees Jeanne Drive Outlot).
• Prepped Nursery Area — Bare Root trees and shrubs to arrive Thursday, April 29.
• Hired summer seasonal staff.
• Garbage pickup as needed.
• Earth Day set -up and take down.
• Trail inspection and sweeping.
• Playground inspection and repairs.
• Tree spaded three Red Maples under power lines at Lino Park (relocated behind pleasure
rink).
• Installed 20 Bluebird houses at various park locations.
• Prepped and seeded native prairie area in Behm's Development.
• Those are April highlights. May will be a challenge until our seasonal staff arrives.
sw /parkbrd /mike /April 04 Update.doc
