Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation
Department
Program Highlights -
June Park Board Update
YOUTH
Kite Day: Approximately 240 kites were given out at this year's event,
which was held on June 4. Despite the rain and lack of wind, about
200 people visited Kite Day. New to Kite Day was the addition of
snacks (granola bars, water and chips) - courtesy of Target.
Summer Playground Program: The Summer Playground Program began on June 13. Atotal of 341 children are
enrolled in our seven sites. This is an excellent turnout. The program will run for 8 weeks this year - one week longer
than previous years. Highlight activities for the sites include visits from Underwater Adventures, the Centennial Fire
Department, the Lino Lakes Police Department and Wargo Nature Center. Two individual park parties are also planned
for each site - the Independence Day Party (the week of June 27) and the Finale (the week of August 1).
Preschool Playtime: 35 children are enrolled in our two sessions of Preschool Playtime this year. New this year -
expanded hours and days. The program is operating for 1.5 hours per day versus past years of 45 minutes per day.
The program is also running for 15 sessions versus past years of only 8 sessions. So far the kids are having a great
time and the staff are doing a fantastic job of keeping them busy and entertained.
Youth Sports: Our summer youth sports programs are now underway. Here are some of the highlights.
♦ 3 - 6 year old T -Ball: June session classes are finishing up the last week of this month. 130 youth participated in
our T Ball programs this month.
• Soccer Fundamentals: Session 1 started June 20. 80 kids are registered for this session.
♦ Mini Hawks Sports Camp: This camp was conducted June 20 -24. It was a three hour camp that featured sports
such as T Ball, football, soccer and basketball. 21 youth participated in this program.
♦ Cougar Baseball and Soccer Camps: Both camps started the week of June 27 and are being run by Centennial
High School varsity coaches and players. 60 youth are registered for the Baseball Camp, 70 are registered for the
Soccer Camp.
• Tennis: Tennis started the week of June 13. 160 participants are taking part in this session of lessons.
♦ Youth Golf: 32 youth are participating in this one week golf camp. The camp concludes with a round of nine holes
at Kate Haven Golf Course.
♦ Lacrosse: Our Intro Camp has 22 participants, Mini -Mites has 12 participants. Our Boys Lacrosse League started
playing games the weekend of June 12. We have 1 team of 5th /6th graders and one team of 7th /8th graders in the
Boys League and a total 65 boys playing.
• Fall Soccer and Football: Registration has begun for these programs. The registration dates are June 20 - July 18.
ADULT
Fitness: Yoga is our most popular program this summer. We were
able to add a new session of Maintenance Yoga to accommodate
the interest of participants. We did, however, have to cancel our
Slim Express and Ball & Band Fitness classes due to low
enrollment.
RECREATION REVIEW & WEB PAGE
"'creation Review: Work is just beginning on the fall edition of the
Recreation Review. We hope to have everything completed and
ready for distribution by the middle of August.
Questions? Please call Liz Benoit or Brian Hronski at 651- 982 -2440.
Lacrosse Camp
