Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation c
Department
Program Highlights -
Septem ber Park Board Update
YOUTH
Middle School Beach Party: 87 middle school students entering grades
6 - 8 attended this year's Beach Party on Thursday, September 1, 2005
at Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park. Despite the extremely
windy weather, it was a good day. Participants enjoyed a pizza lunch, rock climbing, the bounce, swimming, kayaking,
canoeing and playing -- all for FREE! The Beach Party was sponsored by Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation, Anoka
County Parks and Recreation, Centennial Community Services, Centennial School District and the University of
Minnesota TAAG Study. The funding for the event came from a TAAG Study Grant offered through the University of
Minnesota.
Youth Football: We have 17 teams and 290 players in youth tackle football this season. Teams range from 2nd -8th
grade. Games are held every Saturday at Centennial Middle School starting at9:00 a.m. All youth football teams will
participate in the playoffs starting the week of October 24 -29.
Youth Soccer: We have 36 teams and 380 players in youth soccer this fall. Teams range from boys and girls U6 - U12.
Games are held every Saturday at Rice Lake Elementary and Centennial Middle School. For the U10 and U12 teams
there will be an end of the season tournament held on Saturday, October 29.
ell Youth Instructional: We're gearing up for the fall season of our youth instructional programs. Dance and Tae Kwon
Do begin the last week of September. The rest (Floor Hockey, Soccer and Toss, Kick and Catch, Fastpitch Pitching)
begin in October. Registration has been good for all programs - it is consistent with past seasons.
ADULT
Adult Fall Softball: We had a Men's Tuesday and Co -Rec Sunday Fall leagues this year - in which 15 teams
participated. League Champions were Sunday Night Co -Rec- Killer B's, and Tuesday Night Mens - Green Mill. Both
teams qualified and will play in the upcoming State Tournament!
Fitness: The fall sessions of our fitness classes are up and running. Registration was quite good this season com-
pared to previous seasons. We believe this increase in participation is due to some additional advertising we did this
summer - a flyer was mailed to all participants from the past three seasons.
Community Outings: Our summer trips did not go over very well. We believe the heat and higher trip prices had quite a
bit to do with the low registration. In an effort to increase participation, we worked with our tour operator on finding lower
priced trips. Our first trip of the fall season, Queen of Bingo Cruise, on
October 18 is full.
ON -LINE REGISTRATION
We began on -line registration this fall. So far it has worked well for those
ilshing to utilize the service. To date, we have received about 24 on -line
istrations . We anticipate this number will increase once more
customers realize how convenient it is. All registration on -line is in real time
-- that means all registrations are processed the moment they are entered.
Questions?
