•
FAIRWAY
FLYERZ
SC GOLF OUTFITTERS
Disc Golf is played much like traditional golf, only instead of hitting a ball into a hole you throw
a disc (similar to a Frisbee) into an elevated metal basket. The goal is the same: to complete the
course in the fewest number of shots. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a basket, which is the
"hole ". As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from
the spot where the previous throw has landed. The trees, shrubs and terrain changes in and around
the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the "putt" lands in the basket and
the hole is completed.
Ideally, a well balanced course has a mixture of holes that go completely through the woods,
partially through woods, and also out in the open. A typical fairway in the woods ranges from 20 -40
feet wide. The design will incorporate trees, elevation changes, water, and would adapt the fairways
to weave around or over them. Some new courses are being developed with two sets of tees to better
serve the different skill levels of players in the community. Four levels of player skills (Gold, Blue,
White and Red) have been defined with design guidelines for each level. Public courses are usually
designed with a combination of Blue & Red or White & Red tees to meet the needs of most players.
Well developed disc golf markets (like the Twin Cities, Chicago), and private facilities can
sometimes justify installing a few of the longest, most challenging courses that include Gold tees for
the highest level of players, although it still makes sense to install a set of shorter tees for White or
Red level players. A full length Championship course can require more than one acre per hole
depending on foliage density (more trees, elevation or water = less acreage required). However, a
small recreational course can sometimes fit 1 -2 holes per acre depending on terrain. The design
should be completed by a qualified designer, with an eye for safety, versatility, and fun.
I have clients that live in the Lino Lakes in my store frequently, asking for 18 -hole championship
quality disc golf courses to be installed in their neighborhood. To that request, I offer my services to
you as a qualified designer. My resume includes designing disc golf courses on the local, regional
and national levels, consulting on over 100 courses, and by working in the disc golf distribution
industry for over a decade, I understand the sport more than most other designers. I am willing to
conduct a feasibility study on your parks, at no cost to Lino Lakes. Once completed you will know
whether disc golf can be installed in your current parks and how much it will cost, or if disc golf
doesn't fit now, the study will inform and educate you for when an opportunity arises. I can be
reached at 651- 484 -5035 during the day, or 612 -214 -2285 anytime. Thank you for your time.
Sine -rely,
ichael R. Snelson
E STREET N.
