•
/o,
Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department
Program Highlights
February Park Board Update
SPECIAL EVENTS
Sweetheart Dance: The annual Sweetheart Dance for children ages 12 months - 5
years was held on Saturday, February 10 at Centennial Elementary School from 10 -
11:15 a.m. 176 adults and children attend the event this year - one of our highest
turnouts ever! Participants dance to music by Mar -Kit DJs, made a valentine card,
received a valentine tattoo, had their picture taken in front of our holiday backdrop and
enjoyed refreshments. Opening up this event to children 12 months of age really
increased our turnout and we received several comments from families about how
much they have enjoyed coming to the event over the years as their children have
grown. We plan to offer the dance again next year with the same format.
Target Center Tickets: We tried something new this year - offering tickets to the Target Center for preschool /family
matinee performances. We were able to obtain a reduced group rate price for the tickets and in turn passed the
savings on to our participants. Participants were, however, required to provide their own transportation to the Target
Center. For January's Sesame Street Live we sold 51 tickets and for the upcoming Disney on Ice we sold 70 tickets.
YOUTH
Hockey Skills Development and Snack & Skate: Hockey Skills and Snack and Skate outdoor skating lessons will
conclude Saturday February 24. We had 34 total participants this year in these programs. On Monday February 19
(Presidents Day) the Snack & Skate and Hockey Skills participants were able to skate for free at the Centennial Sports
Center. Approximately 25 skaters were on the ice.
• School's Out Programming We've been attempting to offer programs on school out days, but unfortunately have not
had much success. Our separation from the school district on these programs could be the reason for the low interest
- the district was a huge advertising base and was always good at drawing in participants. The district chose to
separate from us on these programs because attendance had been dropping and they did not feel it was in their best
interest to put a lot of time and effort into a program that would more than likely be cancelled. Also, with the district
operating Kids Club, they did not feel there was as strong of need anymore for this type of programming. Nonetheless,
we are continuing to offer programming for non - school days with the hope that interest will be renewed.
•
ADULT
Men's Basketball: Men's Basketball play -offs started on Wednesday February 21. The championship game will be on
Wednesday, March 21. Regular season champions were Dummys Dummies.
Co -Rec Indoor Soccer: Co -Rec Indoor Soccer league is starting at the Centennial Sports Arena on Wednesday,
March 14. The league is full at 8 teams.
Softball: Co -Rec and Men's Softball registrations have been coming in.
We will be having Monday and Tuesday night Men's Class D, and Sunday
Co -Rec leagues this spring and summer.
WARMING HOUSES
Warming Houses and Skating rinks are tentatively going to stay open until
Sunday, February 25.
RECREATION REVIEW
Recreation Review: The spring edition of the Recreation Review is now out in
homes and available on -line at www.ci.lino- lakes.mn.us.
Questions?
