• <br />• <br />• <br />Park Board Meeting - February 5, 2007 <br />Minutes <br />process the city will be establishing a Comprehensive Plan <br />Advisory Panel. The panel is proposed to consist of the Planning <br />and Zoning Board, three members from each of the other advisory <br />boards (Park Board, Environmental Board, and EDAC) as well as <br />community residents. <br />Rick advised the Park Board that they have been requested to <br />appoint three members to the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Panel. <br />The tentative meeting dates for this group is the third Wednesday <br />of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is anticipated for <br />there to be six - ten meetings for the advisory panel. The first <br />advisory panel meeting is proposed for March 21, 2007. <br />He went on to say that it is anticipated that there will be a <br />process kickoff meeting the evening of Wednesday, March 7. This <br />will be a joint meeting of the council, all advisory boards, the <br />advisory panel, and other jurisdictional agencies (i.e. school <br />district, county, etc.). <br />Kathryn Gallup and Pat Huelman volunteered to be on the <br />Comprehensive Plan Advisory Panel. Staff will contact Pam and <br />Paul to see if one of them would also available to be on the <br />panel. <br />2006 Parks and Recreation Department Accomplishments: <br />Rick reviewed the memo that was included in the member's packets. <br />He said that two of the biggest accomplishments for the Parks <br />Department were the completion of the Birch Street Trail and the <br />open air shelters in Behm's and Highland Meadows Parks. He said <br />Recreation staff was kept busy processing 3,641 program <br />registrations. <br />PARKS DEPARTMENT UPDATE: <br />Rick reviewed a memo from Mike Hoffman, Parks Supervisor, which <br />summarized the maintenance highlights for January 2007. Rick said <br />staff was doing the best they can on the maintenance of skating <br />rinks this winter. He also touched on the tree work that has <br />been done in Shenandoah Park. Members wanted to know about the <br />usage of skating rinks and what was done with rink attendants if <br />the rinks were not open. Rick replied that he would be providing <br />the Board with attendance numbers etc. at the March meeting. He <br />also said that there wasn't staff at the shelters if the rinks <br />weren't in skateable condition or if the weather was too cold. <br />Rick asked members to review the rest of the memo and to contact <br />him if they had any further questions on the update. <br />RECREATION DEPARTMENT UPDATE: <br />Rick referred to the Recreation Program Highlights Flyer from <br />January 2007. He talked about how popular the Secret Holiday <br />Gift Shop had been. He told members that the department plans on <br />3 <br />
