Parks, Trails, Open Space and Recreation <br />Goal I :' Continue development and maintenance of recreational activities that serve the <br />identified needs or the community and people of all ages, including. where possible, <br />nc bborhood parks, larger multi -use area parks and the regional park. <br />Strategies: <br />1. Continue to pursue the development of a multi sports complex either on the city -owned <br />property at Birch and Centerville Roads or another suitable site. <br />2. Foster and maintain cooperation between the city and school districts to facilitate joint <br />use of indoor and outdoor facilities for organized and recreational activities. <br />3. Utilize the Rice Creek Regional Park as an aesthetic and recreational community amenity <br />with continued sensitivity to the preservation of biosystems and ecosystems within the <br />park. <br />4. Acquire, reserve and develop sufficient park and open space land to fulfill the identified <br />and projected needs of the present and future population. <br />5. Continue collaboration with the YMCA and similar organizations to provide recreational <br />facilities for the entire community. <br />6. Continue, whenever possible, inclusion of neighborhood parks in future developments <br />and planned redevelopments. <br />Strategies: <br />1. Identify, develop and maintain new public access points to area lakes so that residents <br />can enjoy these unique recreational opportunities. <br />2. Ensure the new access points are designed to minimize adverse impacts on lakeshore <br />quality, water quality and adjacent environmental features: i.e. uplands, etc. <br />Strategies: <br />1. Continue to work with adjacently jurisdictions to achieve interconnectivity among trails. <br />2. As development occurs, require an interconnected trail system. <br />
