Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation
Department Program Highlights
April Park Board Update
YOUTH
Youth Instructional Programs: Spring session youth
instructional programs are off and running. Soccer and
Preschool Dance were two of our more popular programs this
session - we filled all three of our soccer classes for a total of
37 participants and three out of our four dance classes for a
total of 38 participants. Fifteen children are participating in two classes of our Basket "Have a Ball" program this
spring session and 17 youth and adults are participating in our Beginner and Continuing Tae Kwon Do programs.
Spring session classes conclude by early June.
Spring Break: The two camps we offered over spring break, Abrakadoodle's Colorama Camp and Once Upon a
Time Dance and Theatre Camp, were both cancelled due to low enrollment. The fact that they were only 1/2 day
camps may have affected enrollment. We will look into offering full day options next year.
Access Adventure (A2): Our Access Adventure programs are struggling to draw in participants. We have had
a few calls from adults interested in our running program, but for themselves rather than their teenager. We are
looking into some alternative marketing methods in hopes of bringing in participants for the summer Amazing
Teen Race, as we have secured $600 of grant funding for the program and would hate to have to give it back
•cause we were not able to run the program.
Lacrosse Leagues: Our summer lacrosse leagues are filling up fast. We will have one 3rd /4th grade team, two
5th /6th grade teams, and one 7th /8th grade teams. These are all boys teams.
ADULT
Softball: Summer softball leagues started last week. We have nine Sunday Co -Rec, nine Monday and nine
Tuesday Class D Rec teams for a total of 27 teams this spring /summer.
Indoor Soccer: The Co -Rec Indoor Soccer regular season champion was Miller Time. The championship game
is Wednesday, May 2.
RECREATION REVIEW
The summer edition of the Recreation Review is out
in homes. Resident registration officially begins May
7, but we have already received several registrations.
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
We received over 60 applications for employment
this summer. Twenty -three applicants were hired for
the Playground Program and Preschool Playtime. Of
e 23, 11 are brand new and 12 are returning. We
ve a great group of staff this year and are looking
forward to an exciting summer!
Questions? Please contact Liz Benoit or Brian
Hronski at 651- 982 -2440.
