Recommendations for 2008
• There are only a few changes I would like to propose
for 2008. One of the major changes would be the
maximum number of participants allowed at each site.
After reviewing attendance charts for the past three
years it is very apparent that never more than 90% of
those registered attend on any given day and the
average daily attendance is no more than 64% of those
registered. As a result, increasing attendance at the
afternoon sites to 60 participants (with 4 staff) would
allow more participants to register (we had to turn
several families away at our full sites this summer) and
still keep the program within the ratios of now more than 1 staff to every 15 participants. Based
on the attendance charts from the morning sites I would like to recommend decreasing the
maximums to 40 participants and decreasing the staff total to three per site. I would lastly like to
recommend decreasing the hours of the morning programs from 8:30 a.m. — Noon to 9 a.m. —
Noon. Many of the children did not arrive until 9 a.m. or later at the sites and it was often
difficult for the staff to plan activities for the early part of the program as there were never more
than a handful of children present until after 9 a.m.
•
Other program structure recommendations for 2008 would be as follows:
Morning Playground Program
Hours: 9 a.m. - Noon
Ratio: 1 to 15
Cost: $85; $60 Lino Lakes Resident
Dates: June 16 - August 7, 8 weeks
Birch Park - Max of 40, 3 staff 1 Head Leader, 1 Leader, 1 Assistant Leader
Sunrise Park - Max of 40, 3 staff 1 Head Leader, 1 Leader, 1 Assistant Leader
Afternoon Playground Program
Hours: 1 - 4:30 p.m.
Ratio: 1 to 15
Cost: $95; $70 Lino Lakes Resident
Dates: June 16 - August 7, 8 weeks
Behm's Park - Max of 60, 4 staff 1 Head Leader, 2 Leaders, 1 Assistant Leader
Birch Park - Max of 60, 4 staff 1 Head Leader, 2 Leaders, 1 Assistant Leader
Clearwater Creek Park - Max of 60, 4 staff 1 Head Leader, 2 Leaders, 1 Assistant Leader
Sunrise Park - Max of 60, 4 staff 1 Head Leader, 2 Leaders, 1 Assistant Leader
Highland Meadows Park - Max of 60, 3 staff 1 Head Leader, 1 Leaders, 1 Assistant Leader
(HMP Note: average for past three years too low to justify more than 3 staff, very
doubtful max will be reached)
Other Recommendations:
Summer Coordinators — 2 (one w/a focus on weekly art projects, one w/a focus on curriculum)
Leader Substitutes — 2
