August • Mowing, garbage collection and equipment maintenance as needed. • Assisted Recreation Department with Safety Camp set -up. • Storm damage clean-up of parks, trails and streets. • Fall soccer and football field preparation, field layout and painting, move goals, hang nets, and anchor. o Football: 3 game fields and 8 practice fields. o Soccer — 15 fields. • Sweep trails. • Playground inspections and repairs. • Lino Park — Site grading and trail layout and basing. September ❖ Park mowing when and where we can. Some areas are too wet to mow. • Garbage collection and equipment maintenance as needed. ❖ Fertilized 45 acres of athletic fields and irrigated turf. • Assisted Environmental Coordinator with Oak Wilt control work. (vibratory plow operator for 1 week) • Tear off and re -roof Birch Park warming house. This building also needs siding, windows, and doors which we plan on replacing next spring. ❖ Assisted Utilities with hydrant flushing. ❖ Soccer and football field maintenance (line cut -ins and painting, goal and net maintenance). ••• Lino Park • o Trail install (contracted). o Irrigation install (contracted). o Poured 10'x10' concrete slab for irrigation shed. o Seed bed prepared and seeded. What a summer and fall it has been. First extremely dry in June, July and early August, which kept us busy watering young trees and plants. Then the rains began and it seems like it hasn't stopped raining since. It has been the wettest August, September and October in the Twin Cities ever — a record breaker. There are park and school sites that we haven't been able to mow for over 2 weeks and I'm not sure we will be able to get equipment on them until spring. Unfortunately the wet weather doesn't stop the soccer and football teams from practicing and playing games so our work will be cut out for us when those seasons finally end on the weekend of October 27 — 28. The wet weather has also been a major setback to the progress at Lino Park. The original plan was for site work to be completed by August 24, the irrigation system, to be installed by September 4 and our crew to have the park seeded by September 7. Due to all the weather delays the park was not seeded until September 28. Unfortunately due to heavy rains the week of October 1 much of the seed was washed away along with some soil. I will update you on the progress at Lino Park in the October Update. •
