Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department <br />600 Town Center Parkway <br />Lino Lakes, MN 55014 <br />(651) 982 -2440 Fax (651) 982 -2439 <br />www.ci.lino- lakes.mn.us <br />8 <br />June 28, 2011 <br />TO: Park Board Members <br />FROM: Mike Hoffman, Parks Supervisor <br />SUBJECT: February 2011 — June 2011 <br />A quick recap of the maintenance activities: <br />February 2011 <br />• Snow Removal — Streets, parking lots, cul -de -sacs and city trails. <br />• Rink Maintenance — Daily sweeping, blowing, shoveling and flooding of four hockey and <br />three pleasure rinks <br />• Equipment Maintenance <br />March 2011 <br />• Park Tree Pruning — Canopy raising and structural pruning of young and established <br />shade trees. <br />• Birch Park Fire (Insurance Claim) — We were involved with some of the initial cleanup. <br />A contractor was hired for the repairs and restoration. Building has been fully restored <br />and is currently hosting summer playground program. <br />April 2011 <br />• Sunrise Park Shelter — As you know, the roof of Sunrise Shelter #2 was damaged in a <br />storm last summer Sunrise Shelter #1 was already suffering from old age (30+ years) <br />and a leaky roof. As a result it was decided to remove both shelters and replace with one <br />larger modern shelter. Work performed included: <br />o Removed roof panels — Shelter #1. <br />o Removed damaged Box elder tree next to Shelter #1. <br />o Removed existing concrete slabs and shelter frames from #1 and #2. <br />o Restored and seeded area around Shelter #2. <br />• Blow Trails — Used new Buffalo Blower to blow debris (sand, sticks, leaves) off city <br />trails. <br />• Stump ground and restore 20+ stumps located at various parks. <br />• Ash tree removal and replacement with the impending threat of Emerald Ash Borer <br />(EAB) looming on the horizon staff has been working on a preparedness plan for EAB. <br />Part of the plan calls for removal of younger, smaller diameter trees as well as older, <br />larger diameter trees with defects. <br />
