AGENDA ITEM 1D
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Ann Blair, City Clerk
MEETING DATE: November 24, 2003
TOPIC: Correction - Canvass Municipal Election
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5 Vote)
BACKGROUND:
On November 10, 2003, the Lino Lakes City Council canvassed the municipal election
results. After the election, the results are sent eletronically to the County, and we prepare
a Summary Statement of the results, which we use here at the City. Since then, an error
was discovered in the absentee column of the Summary Statement. Upon transferring the
totals to the Summary Statement for Precinct 1 and Precinct 2, the "number of persons
registering on election day" was recorded instead of the number of "absentee voters ".
This correction does not change the totals; however, it must be corrected.
Attached is a copy of that portion of the tapes from Precinct 1 and Precinct 2 that were
used to obtain the information for the Summary Statement. Be aware that the
handwritten numbers on the tapes are put there on election evening by the head judge
with a fellow election judge present. These are never changed. The results are certified
and signed off by all the judges present that evening to insure the integrity of the process.
The information sent to the County goes from the Accu -Vote machine directly to the
County via modem. The numbers are not retyped.
Also attached is a copy of the Corrected Summary Statement, with the correct absentee
voter information. The statement should be signed by the canvassing board and filed in
the city clerk's office.
OPTIONS:
1. Approve correction to summary statement
2. Return to Staff for further review
RECOMMENDATION:
Option 1
