He stated if Elm Street was cut -off,
traffic will use 2nd Avenue as a shortcut. He noted
traffic used 2nd Avenue now as a shortcut to the church.
He asked that his street not be turned into a highway.
Mr. Steve Wurscher, 7132 Gray Heron Drive, stated he
agreed. He noted there were already 1700 families who
attended St. Joseph Church and a new church will be built
in a year or so. If Elm Street is cut -off the only way
to access the church will be via Sunrise or 2nd Avenue.
He indicated he had spoken with Bill Warden, State
Highway Inspector and he was very cordial and stated
everything was negotiable. He suggested Fourth Avenue
would work if it was turned into a cul -de -sac.
Mr. Greg Jenks, 327 Elm Street, stated his home was
located south of the tennis courts. He indicated all the
neighbors, eight families on the north side, were
concerned about the woods being cut down. He stated he
was concerned with the environment and the wildlife. He
stated he was not against athletics but felt this was too
many fields for a middle school. He would like to see as
much of the woods saved as possible. Everyone is
concerned with education but they are concerned with the
environment also. He noted when the woods were removed
the noise from 35W would be much louder and heating bills
would increase due to the wind whipping across the open
area. He noted a lot is happening without consideration
of the neighborhood. He stated he wanted to compromise
but also wanted to be considered.
Mr. John Sullivan, Wenzel Farm, stated he was a member of
the Charter Commission. He noted his concern with the
school and also the whole area. He stated he read in the
feasibility report that Lake Drive will become a four -
lane highway with medians. He stated he never bargained
for this when he purchased his home. He also questioned
the installation of an acceleration ramp. He stated he
tries to read the newsletters and newspaper to stay
involved. He noted he was a member of the Pet Ordinance
Committee and if a committee was organized to address the
proposed school, he would like to be a member.
Chair Schaps asked the feasibility of Lake Drive becoming
a four -lane highway.
10
