PROPOSED DOG ORDINANCE
Officer Kenow was present to review the current dog
ordinance and the new proposed Animal Ordinance. She
indicated that the current ordinance was outdated,
disputable and did not hold up in court. She stated that
they had reviewed other ordinances within the metro area
and existing State Statutes to come up with the proposed
changes. Some of the problems currently encountered
include dogs at large and cats. She added that there
seems to be an increase in the number of people with
three (3) dogs and that the average number of dogs for
those having a kennel license is approximately five (5).
Mr. Johnson suggested we should look at the farm animal
ordinance in conjunction with this ordinance. Tom
Mesich stated that he had worked with Office Kenow on the
proposed ordinance and knows of many people who raise
show dogs that have more than two dogs. After much
discussion Mr. Schones indicated that he would be willing
to chair a sub - committee to review the proposed ordinance
and suggested public meetings to gain citizen input.
Mr. Steve Andre of 495 Ash Street was present and
expressed concerns about the proposed ordinance and the
number of dogs it would allowed. He questioned allowing
kennels and disrupting the piece and quite of the
community. He had several comments concerning the
ordinance which were noted for P & Z information.
Mr. Robert Dunn suggested that in the review of the
ordinance a matrix be provided that would compare the old
ordinance with the proposed ordinance.
After further discussion, it was determined that a
neighborhood meeting be held at City Hall, 6:30 P.M. on
August 22, 1995. The meeting will be publicized in the
local paper.
B.
