Lino Lakes Public Services Department 600 Town Center Parkway Lino Lakes, MN 55014 (651) 982 -2440 Fax (651) 982 -2439 i24 January 18, 2001 Dear Resident, The City Council has authorized staff to submit a $125,000 Outdoor Recreation Grant for development of Clearwater Creek Park. This grant program is facilitated through the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and is a very competitive program with hundreds of applications submitted annually. However, with your help, I am optimistic that the application will have a good chance of success. A Public Hearing is required to allow residents the opportunity to provide input and comment on the proposed Outdoor Recreation Grant Application. The Public Hearing will be held at the Monday, February 12, 2001, City Council meeting at 6:30 pm. The minutes of the Public Hearing must be included in the grant application. Therefore, it is important that residents in the Clearwater Creek Development attend the Public Hearing and express their support for the Outdoor Recreation Grant Application. A neighborhood petition supporting the grant application may also be helpful. The petition should be submitted at the • February 12, 2001 City Council meeting. Another way to indicate support from area residents is to assist the Parks Department with the installation of the playground equipment. This has worked out very well with other neighborhood playground projects. Since we aren't paying the playground equipment supplier to install the equipment, we are able to purchase 25% more equipment with the budgeted amount of money. Therefore, it would be helpful to have area residents sign a letter of commitment indicating their willingness to install the playground equipment. Perhaps this could be accomplished at the same time as a neighborhood petition is circulated. • If the residents of Clearwater Creek truly want to see Clearwater Creek Park developed sooner rather than later, it is imperative that this grant application has the support from the residents in your development. If the grant application doesn't portray community support, it will not stand much chance for success. This letter has been sent to residents who attended either of the master planning meetings.
