As a result our non- irrigated park areas are brown and dormant while our irrigated areas are working overtime to try to keep the grass green. Thankfully, as I write this, Mother Nature is providing us with a pretty good morning rainfall. Hopefully, there will be more in the future. Maintenance activities during July have included: ♦ Mowing of parks and athletic fields. With the lack of rainfall our mowing frequency has decreased. ♦ Daily ballfield preparation Spring softball and baseball seasons are winding down meaning fewer fields need daily preparation. This has allowed us more time to concentrate on other projects. ♦ Weekly Garbage Pickup Most of our parks are having garbage collected once a week. However, some of our high use areas are being collected twice weekly. ♦ Irrigation System Maintenance and Repair Most of the work has entailed cleaning or replacing heads and resetting heads to proper grade. (Heads set to high or low constitute a safety hazard and we are trying to address this.) ♦ Irrigation System Installed at Marshan Park (Contracted) With the irrigation system in place we are planning to seed in mid - August. ♦ Summer Fertilizer Application Applied second fertilizer application to approximately 40 acres of irrigated sports fields and park areas.
