• <br />• <br />PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT <br />2001 Accomplishments <br />PARKS DEPARTMENT <br />The Parks Department is responsible for the acquisition, development and <br />maintenance of the parks and trails system. This department consists of a Parks <br />Supervisor and three maintenance employees. During the spring and summer up <br />to six seasonal employees are hired to assist with mowing and other park <br />maintenance projects. <br />The parks system consists of 22 neighborhood parks, 18 of which are developed <br />and regularly maintained. The Parks Department mows and maintains <br />approximately 115 acres including 18 neighborhood parks, Centennial Middle <br />School (27 acres), Rice Lake Elementary School (15 acres), Civic Complex, <br />Senior Center /Public Works Building, and Fire Station #2. Maintenance staff <br />prepares and maintains 17 baseball /softball fields and 8 soccer fields that are <br />used extensively in the spring, summer, and fall. Winter projects consist of the <br />establishment and maintenance of 4 hockey rinks and 6 general skating rinks, <br />maintenance and cleaning of 4 warming houses, assisting Public Works with <br />snow removal on city streets and parking lots, and clearing our trail system. <br />The City's trail system continues to grow with over 16.5 miles of trails currently <br />being maintained which includes mowing the shoulders, sweeping, tree trimming, <br />and snow plowing. <br />Accomplishments during 2001 include: <br />City Hall Park <br />• West Ballfield — Installed 15' aluminum players benches to complete a <br />project which began in fall 2000. Additional work included concrete pads <br />and apron and new out -of -play and bench area fencing. <br />• Skate Park — Installed 60'x80' bituminous pad. Assembled and placed <br />Skatewave equipment. Installed 6'x80' privacy fence, site prep and <br />seeding of area adjacent to pad. Planted 19 trees around project. <br />• Warming House — Interior walls and trim were painted. In addition five <br />murals were painted featuring "Peanuts" characters. <br />Clearwater Creek Park <br />• Master planned park with neighborhood input <br />• Applied for and received $125,000 grant <br />• Began developing park including grading, berming, installing base of trails <br />
