4 <br />COMMUNITY USE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES <br />Need, Question, Issue <br />Are school facilities available for community group use? <br />POLICY STATEMENT <br />Community use of school facilities enhances school - community relations and makes better use <br />of public facilities. The School Board encourages community group use of school facilities <br />whenever possible. Community group activities should not interfere with school sponsored <br />activities. Community groups may be asked to pay minimal user costs to cover building <br />supervision, utility, custodial, food service and other direct expenses. Centennial Community <br />Services, as the superintendent's designee, The Superintendent or a designate shall approve all <br />such requests (except as outlined in this policy). Authorization for use of school facilities shall <br />not be considered school district or School Board endorsement of the group or activity. <br />Alcoholic beverages shall not be permitted on school property at any time. All Centennial <br />facilities and grounds are a tobacco /drug /alcohol free environment. <br />The regular scheduling (two or more times per month) of school facilities, by the same group or <br />organization, at times other than the normal work week of the custodians shall normally not be <br />allowed. Any exceptions to this policy must have the approval of the Director of Business <br />Affairs and the Superintendent Community Services Director. <br />All groups securing approval for school facility use shall sign an agreement which includes a <br />"hold harmless" release clause available from the Community Services Depaent. Fundraising <br />groups may be required to provide a minimum of $500,000 of comprehensive liability insurance <br />covering the time of the event, with the district a named insured. <br />The School Board wants to help ensure the health and safety of all groups using Centennial <br />School District facilities. That health and safety includes the consumption of food and beverages <br />on school district property. The board recognizes the prevalence of food borne illnesses and <br />potential liability to the district, and will work with the Anoka County Health Department to <br />enforce the Minnesota Food Code. <br />
