Late January and still no snow on the ground. The only time I've had the plow on my truck was in early November and that was just to make sure everything worked properly. Maintenance activity during a very brown winter has included: ♦ Daily maintenance of all hockey and pleasure rinks. With the warm weather we had been experiencing it was a challenge to keep skateable ice but, with the recent cold snap we have been able to build a good base of ice and rinks are now in good shape. ♦ Buckthorn removal — Maintenance staff cleared an area approximately 3/4 of an acre in size of all buckthorn 1" in diameter and larger. All stumps were chemically treated to prevent resprouting and all brush was either woodchipped and removed or brush flailed on site with our new brush flail. • Marshan Park storage building — We are in the process of replacing the old musty carpet with vinyl tile throughout the building. Project is approximately t/ complete, anticipated completion date mid- February. • Playground inspections — Inspected and repaired all playgrounds. Also added Fibar where needed. ♦ Conducted employee performance reviews of all maintenance staff. ♦ Attended MN Green Expo — (conference and trade show). ♦ Equipment maintenance. ♦ Warminghouse maintenance. ♦ Shop and Park Building Organizing — Trying to maximize storage in a limited amount of space by adding shelving units and storage racks.
