Lino Lakes Public Services Department
600 Town Center Parkway
Lino Lakes, MN 55014
(651) 982 -2440 Fax (651) 982 -2439
June 12, 2003
Dr. John Christiansen
Independent School District No. 12
4707 North Road
Circle Pines, MN 55014 -1898
Dear Mr. Christiansen,
Over the past few years, the City Council and Park Board have approved the installation
of 1/2 court basketball courts throughout the Lino Lakes parks system. Currently, the
parks system has 1/2 court basketball courts at Arena Acres Park, Wenzel Farms Park,
Highland Meadows Park, Pheasant Hills Park, and Clearwater Creek Park. The
basketball courts are used quite frequently. However, we continue to receive requests
to provide a full size basketball court.
City staff and the Park Board have discussed the need and potential for a full size
basketball court the past several years. Subsequently, the City Council has approved
the construction of a full size basketball court as a component of the Park Board's 2003
goals.
After considering several potential sites, the consensus among city staff and the Park
Board members is that Rice Lake Elementary School is the most desirable location for
several reasons:
❑ Centralized location
❑ Sufficient space including parking
❑ Could be utilized by students during the day
The purpose of this letter is to inquire whether the School District would be receptive to
discussing this concept further. The City of Lino Lakes is willing to assume
responsibility for all related costs including construction and on -going maintenance.
If you have any questions, comments, or would like further information, please contact
me at 651- 982 -2444. I look forward to your thoughts on this issue.
Sincerely,
•
Rick DeGardner
Public Services Director
aiio-1/(1,a
