Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation
Department
Program Highlights -
November Park Board Update
YOUTH
Youth Instructional: Many of our fall session programs have now concluded. The rest will finish the first week or two of
December. The programs went very well this season despite some smaller class sizes than normal.
Baskets "Have a Ball ": It is anticipated to see a rebirth of this program later this season.
Fastpitch Pitching Clinics: The winter program will be offered on Sunday mornings. This may be difficult for some to
attend, but we anticipate that the program will fill based on the high demand for the program.
Field Trips: Our Thanksgiving break field trip, scheduled for November 26, is Movie and Tropics. Twenty -five youth have
signed up so far to attend this trip which includes a morning trip to East Bethel Theatre to watch "Brother Bear" and an
afternoon trip to the Shoreview Tropics water park.
Family Turkey Shoot: This year's event was held on Saturday, November 22 at Centennial Middle School. 142 adult/
child teams participated in this year's event. Special thanks to our volunteers: Centennial High School National Honor
Society, Centennial High School Student Council, Forest Lake High School National Honor Society, Centennial Women
of Today, City of Lino Lakes Employees, their families and friends. Special thanks too to our event sponsors: Lino Lakes
Lions, Forest Lake Area Athletic Association, Circle Pines Lexington Lions and Lino Lakes State Bank.
kfast with Santa: We are close to filling our 200 spots. As of November 21, 198 people were registered.
Community Outings: We recently planned our extended outings for 2004. They will include a four -day trip to Holland,
Michigan for the Tulip Festival, an 11 -day Canada Magnifique trip to Ontario and Quebec, a three -day Lake Superior trip,
and a four -day Disney Cruise trip.
Five Player Basketball: The season is set to begin December 3. This league accepted a total of nine teams. The
maximum allowed is 10 teams. This number has been reduced due to facility availability.
Open Basketball: So far this program is averaging about 25 people per night. This is consistent with past years.
Fitness: We will be experiment with a few new program offerings this winter such as a massage class, fitness ball and
band class, and some self improvement classes.
Weather permitting, the season is scheduled to begin on December 20. This season the department will operate two
shelters located at Sunrise and Birch parks. Lino and City Hall parks will have maintained ice, but no attendant at the
rink. Conversations have taken place with Centennial Youth Hockey about their use of City Hall Park for additional
practice. The anticipated use would be under their supervision.
Interviews are currently being conducted for rink attendant positions.
•
The winter edition of the Recreation Review was mailed to homes this week.
