Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department
600 Town Center Parkway
Lino Lakes, MN 55014
(651) 982 -2440 Fax (651) 982 -2439
May 31, 2000
TO: Park Board Members
FROM: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director
SUBJECT: Review Request to Include Elm Street Trail in Regional Trail System Plan
Attached is a letter from Ron Cox, Park Planner for the Anoka County Department of Parks and
Recreation. He is requesting that the Elm Street Trail become part of the Regional Trail System
Plan. The proposed regional trail addition would provide a trail from the City of Centerville's
• LaMotte Park, through the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park, to the City of Blaine. Blaine's
Regional Trail would connect to the Bunker Hills Regional Park. The potential of a trail loop
would exist to the proposed Lexington Avenue East Anoka Regional Trail north to the Main
Street Central Anoka Trail, then east along Main Street to Rice Chain of Lakes Regional Park
Reserve just south of the Main Street bridge over 35W.
The existing trail along Elm Street is classified as a transportation trail separated from the
roadway. Anoka County does not have any data indicating the expected increase in traffic. I
would assume that as the general public becomes aware of Anoka County's comprehensive trail
system, this trail would certainly experience increased traffic.
RD:sw
sw /parkbrd /Review Request to Include Elm Street Trail in Regional Park System.doc
