•
•
•
rid
March 21, 2000
Miracle's installation requires that cement be mixed and poured as each support post is positioned. Game
Time's installation allows us to order a cement truck the following day and pour the cement after the
structure is assembled. This is easier, quicker, and more economical than mixing, wheelbarrowing, and
pouring as each post is positioned. We may have to use smaller cement trailers to access Brandywood
Park.
Safety
Game Time is the only company that offers entry archways at every vertical climber event. This reduces
the risk of children falling since the opening is reduced to 15 inches. Without entry archways, the opening
is typically 49 inches wide.
Slides
Game Time slides are ''A inch thicker than Miracle's slides. The side rails are also taller which reduces the
chance of kids falling. All of Game Time's slides are one piece construction and have extra long runouts.
"During the meeting Mr. DeGardner tried to push for bright colors for the playground structure."
I feel that providing some non - neutral color (blue, red, yellow, etc) to the structure would results in a more
exciting experience for the kids. In my opinion, the trees, brush, and significant distance from the
playground equipment to adjoining residences, allowed us to explore a splash of color to this project. I
disagree with the statement that Mrs. Nelson made at the meeting that, "color doesn't matter, the kids will
be happy with just having playground equipment." If color doesn't matter, then why doesn't everyone
purchase black cars and have white houses? Bright colors attracts, excites, and enhances the play
experience. I felt having some color should be considered. However, it was decided to use neutral colors.
"There was voiced some concern with the safety of some parts of the main structure in regards to some
breaks in the railings that open to metal climbing pieces."
I mentioned that Game Time's entry archways reduce the openings to all climbing events.
"In addition, Mr. DeGardner conveyed the feeling that Game Time was promoting the dragon, which is
part of the play structure, and as a result there would be extras. It was not clear if the extras were more
equipment or a discount."
I indicated that the vendor claimed we were getting $8,000 more in equipment since they wanted to demo
the dragon and cyber slide. The bid price is $27,000. This was clarified with Mrs. Nelson over the
telephone the following day.
"Mr. DeGardner has set up a meeting with the Game Time vendor for Wednesday, March 22 at 3:30
pm. This is short notice for all of us and not a good time of day."
Mrs. Nelson requested a meeting and was notified of the date and time on March 14. The reason I set up
this meeting the following week was because I wanted to order the playground equipment soon so it can be
installed this spring or early summer. I felt 8 days was enough time for Mrs. Nelson to notify concerned
residents. If the residents feel that this is too short of notice and not a good time of day, we can certainly
set up another meeting next month before placing the order. This may result in a fall installation.
