October has found us putting our parks to bed for the
winter as well as working on a number of park and trail improvement projects.
MAINTENANCE HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER
• Mowing and garbage pickup at all park locations.
• Trail Restoration
Three trail segments (Marshan, Aqua Lane, and Fox Trace) received restoration work along
the edge of the trail. Work consisted of adding fill, grading, tilling, raking, sodding,
watering, and rolling sod at each location. 825 yards of sod was laid to complete all three
areas.
• Lino Park
Park sign landscaping — see Eagle Scout project summary for details.
Parking lot — a new bituminous parking lot has been installed as part of the Lake Drive
improvements. Maintenance staff removed the fence separating the playground from the
parking lot so the blacktop could be run up to the concrete walkway. The fencing has been
re- installed. New sod has been laid around the park sign as well as the boulevard between
the parking lot and Lake Drive.
• Ballfield Improvements
Sunrise Fields #1 and #2 — Lip reduction where infield ag -lime meets outfield turf and where
warning track meets outfield turf. Over time a prominent lip forms as the ag -lime mat is
either washed by rain or blown by wind into the adjacent turf. Maintenance staff has
corrected this problem by sod cutting out the affected area, altering grade and soil
composition where necessary, and re- laying existing sod to establish a new level transition
line in these areas.
• Maintenance staff has made additional cutouts for the upcoming Turkey Shoot.
• Trail inspection.
