COUNCIL WORK SESSION JULY 23, 1997
UPDATE MARVY STREET IMPROVEMENTS, DAVE AHRENS
A petition against the proposed Marvy Street improvements had been received. This
petition effectively prevents the Council from making the improvement and assessing the
benefited property owners. The City Council must formally recognize the petition. If the
Council feels that septic problems in this area warrant, an emergency improvement could
be initiated. The costs would be funded by the Area and Unit Fund. This fund would be
repaid as property owners petitioned to connect and were assessed.
Ms. Diane Turner, Sunset Road told the Council of her need for sanitary sewer.
Council discussed the matter further and asked that two (2) questions be researched:
- If sanitary sewer was extended down Marvy Street to Sunset Road could ether property
owners connect? The area is not in the MUSA so property owners cannot unless they
they have an emergency.
- How much City funds would be needed? This would have to be 'esearch.
There was discussion about alternative septic systems taff will determine Metropolitan
Council criteria regarding rebuilding septic systems and bring' this information to the
August 6, 1997 work session.
The petition will be brought to the next council meeting for Council action.
SET DATE FOR DISCUSSION OF HRA PROGRAMS, RANDY SCHUMACHER
A special meeting was set for August 6, 1997 at 3:30 p.m. to discuss what is involved
with a Housing, edevelopment Authority (HRA).
REGULAR 'COUNCIL AGENDA ITEMS
All items on this agenda were discussed.
DISCUSS PUBLIC WORKS STORAGE BUILDING DESIGN, DAVE AHRENS
The 1997 Budget contains $104,000 for the construction of another Public Works
Department storage building. The consensus of the Council was that a proper building be
constructed, not a pole barn.
Council discussed financing the building. It was suggested that revenue from antenna
leases be used for the construction. Mr. Ahrens was directed to prepare financial options
for the building.
Page 4
•
•
•
